Student research in sidewalk chalk on September 26

Chalk drawings plus innovative research? You need to see this—or even submit your own work!

Join us in the plaza outside of the Hill Library’s Hillsborough Street doors for the Sidewalk Symposium on Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Co-hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), the free, public event features undergrads from all majors sharing their research, scholarship, and creative projects through colorful visual presentations right on the sidewalk.

And you can participate! Find out details and register here by Tuesday, Sept. 12 with a title, brief abstract, and a mentor’s contact information. Your research project does not need to be complete to participate. And don’t worry if you’re bad at drawing—an artist will be available throughout the event to help conceptualize your research into chalk art. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with this artist for a consultation in advance.

“This event was inspired by the Sidewalk Symposium that takes place at the University of Colorado at Boulder,” Lara Fountaine, Community Engagement & Visitor Relations Librarian, says. “People who stop by during the event will see students in the midst of drawing and creating their chalk art posters.”
